Mathematics

At The Ridgeway School students are set by ability for maths in all years in three bands A, B and C. Sets are constantly monitored and movements take place when appropriate. This allows students to study maths at a level appropriate to their ability, allowing them to feel secure but also make progress through the levels.

At Key Stage 3 students follow a course based on the National Numeracy Strategy, lessons are interactive and allow time for both oral and written consolidation of the skills being taught. At Key Stage 4 the majority of students follow a modular GCSE course sitting modules in January and June of Year 10 and March of Year 11 followed by a terminal paper in June of Year 11.

AS/A2 maths is a very popular choice in Year 12 with students studying modules in Pure Maths, Decision maths and Statistics. Some of our more able students also choose to study Further Maths at AS/A2 level allowing them to experience new topics and study others in more depth.
