Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to Ridgeway. It’s a great pleasure, as the Principal of this wonderful school, to introduce you to all it has to offer.

We are committed to inspiring learners for their future through a vibrant, innovative and supportive environment where students develop resourcefulness, resilience, accept responsibility and are challenged to take risks in order to succeed. Maximising individual students’ development and achievement is what everyday is about. Achievement in examinations is high and we offer an extensive range of leadership and extra-curricular opportunity that is second to none. Students develop the skills and confidence to prepare them for life in the 21st century and it is our aim that students leave us with a passion for life-long learning.

Our students are wonderful ambassadors for the school and take pride in continuing to shape and develop further the excellent community to which they belong. This website contains latest events and copies of The Ridgeway News designed to keep students and parents up-to-date with school life and to give others a snapshot of our school. I very much hope that you will want to come and visit us in person.

As ever, I want to thank our wonderful staff who have been instrumental in helping our sixth formers achieve these great results. I’d also like to recognise the parents for their support in achieving these results as R6 is all about partnership working.

GCSE 2017 results day 24th August 2017.

We are very proud of the performance of all Ridgeway students in this year’s GCSE. Students and teachers have worked incredibly hard in preparing for these exams, achieving some excellent results.

We are really pleased that the effort put in has enabled 71% of our students to achieve the standard pass (4-9) in English and Maths, with 69% achieving 5 A*-C/4-9.  In the new format, Maths and English GCSE (1-9) 31% achieved a 7+ (Grade A or better) in Maths and 22% in English.

The performance of our high attaining pupils are particularly pleasing with students achieving 16 grade 9 (top grade) across English, English Literature and Maths papers.

Principal James Povoas says, “I am delighted with our students’ achievements. Last year we had the best Maths results across Swindon schools and have been able to improve on this in the context of the new GCSE in English and Maths. 71% of students achieving a pass in both English and Maths (84% in English and 79% in Maths) reflects the exceptional work of students and staff. We are looking forward to celebrating with our students and welcoming them back into our 6th form in September.”
