This department is part of the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty.

The Drama department is dedicated to promoting a learning environment which raises pupils’ self esteem, attainment and encourages personal expression.

The ability to co-operate, tolerate, share, respect ourselves and others, aspire to high personal standards, and to contribute with pride to a community ethos within the school, form an integral part of our departmental philosophy. All pupils are given the opportunity to experience, understand and use creatively dramatic concept, form and techniques. The Drama curriculum is topic-based and attempts to use as wide a variety of stimuli as possible. Whereas process is regarded as highly important, presentation is a key skill criterion.

‘Now more than ever, it is vital to encourage all areas of young people’s intellectual and personal capabilities and to recognise that doing this is not at odds with their academic development.   The greatest disincentives to achievement are low self-esteem and lack of motivation. Creative and cultural programmes are powerful ways of revitalising the sense of community in a school and engaging the whole school with the wider community.’

Professor Ken Robinson “All our Futures”
