Assessment of Course
You will be assessed by a combination of written and practically based assignments and one core unit exam worth 25%. In order to pass the course it is essential that you meet the deadlines for your written assignments as they account for 75% of the final mark. You will participate in a variety of classroom based lessons and practical sessions.

Course Content
This course offers an engaging programme for those who are interested in sport; it is equivalent to one GCSE.
All students will follow a programme of study and achieve 4 units for the Level 2 programme during the two years. Throughout the course you will be required to record competencies achieved in assignments. It must be noted this is YOUR responsibility.

Level 2 – Module Layout
During the two years the modules you will study are:

Year 10
Unit 1: Fitness for Sport and Exercise
This unit is externally assessed using an onscreen test – Edexcel sets and marks the test. Worth 25% of overall marks.

Unit 2: Practical Sports Performance
The unit is internally assessed via written assignments and practical skills. Worth 25% of overall marks.

Year 11
Unit 5: Training for Personal Fitness
Students will plan, carry out and review a self-designed personal fitness training programme to achieve own goals and objectives. The unit is internally assessed via written assignments and practical skills. Worth 25% of overall marks.

Unit 6: Leading Sports Activities
Students will undertake the planning and leading of sports activities within a primary school of KS3 House Sports Day. The unit is internally assessed via written assignments and practical skills. Worth 25% of overall marks.

Career Progression
From the Level 2 course students have the opportunity to progress onto university through higher courses such as:

  • Level 3 BTEC Sport Courses
  • AS/A2 Physical Education
  • Sports Coaching

It is also possible to progress directly into employment after completion of the course. For example:

  • Sports Development
  • Health and Fitness work
  • The Leisure Industry
  • Sports Retail
  • Sports Coaching
  • Uniformed Services (Army, Navy or RAF)
