“Design and Technology makes a unique contribution to the development of all young people by preparing them to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. They learn to think and intervene creatively to improve the quality of life.”
At The Ridgeway School and Sixth Form College Key Stage 3 students have the opportunity to engage in creative and innovative projects developing their designing and making skills through Food, Graphics, Product Design and Textiles.
They combine practical and intellectual skills with an understanding of aesthetic, technical, cultural, health, social, emotional, economic, industrial and environmental issues. Through Design and Technology students develop confidence in using practical skills and become discriminating users of products. They apply their creative thinking and learn to innovate.
Design and Technology is a wide-ranging subject that calls on knowledge and concepts developed in other areas of the curriculum applying and extending these in practical ways so reinforcing and enhancing the whole curriculum.
