The Music Vision
The vision of the Music Team is that all students will have the opportunity to experience exciting and inspiring music lessons, and that through the teaching and development of musical skills, students will improve not only as musicians but also in social skills and confidence. We believe that students deserve individual time, support and encouragement so that their musical learning journey is relevant to their own skills and abilities. All students can achieve excellent things in music, regardless of academic ability, and we offer a varied curriculum and thriving department to inspire all students and really make them feel that their musical experiences and they themselves are valuable to us as a team.

All students in Key Stage 3 have 2 music lessons per fortnight.
We teach all Key Stage 3 classes in mixed ability groups.
In KS3 most homework is set in project from relating to the module being studied in class. Other homeworks may include reflecting on a practical task, revising keywords or preparing for an assessment.
Progression to KS4
We offer GCSE in Music, A Level in Music and BTec Level 3 Music Technology. In Key Stage 3 we prepare students for further study of music, and give them a breadth of both knowledge and experience that can benefit their future musical journey. We cover a wide variety of musical styles from orchestral greats to modern artists. All work is focussed on composing, listening to, or performing music. These 3 areas are also how music is examined both at GCSE and A Level.
How does assessment in Music work?
Students are assessed in each Key Assessment task as outlined above. Their overall module level (which is reported home on cycle reports), is the average level achieved across the key assessment tasks. Module levels are recorded by both staff and students in order to track progress.
