Have You Read a Book Today?

As we grow up, there are many skills we develop but arguably, reading is one of the most important skills we have.

After a long period of remote and blended learning, strong independent reading and learning remain as important as ever for our students.

This National Read a Book Day, we’d like to encourage every student to start off the school year by picking up a book and immersing themselves in a story of their choice. Whether it's a classic sci-fi thriller, or an autobiography of one of your heroes, every book you read brings inspiration and teaches you something new.

Research shows that secondary school students who read for pleasure achieve better in school than those who don’t.

As a member of The White Horse Federation, this year we’ve launched an initiative where students read with teachers at least 30 minutes every day of the week.

As well as being a fun and relaxing habit, picking up the reading bug makes studying in school and later on in university or college far easier, equipping students with the tools to take in information efficiently, and the knowledge to think creatively.
