SWINDON YOUTH FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE… It’s Friday and once again we’ve come to the end of our annual Swindon Youth Festival of Literature and what a week it has been! Fortunately, we have all learned to manage change and disappointments in the last 18 months, so the disappointment of having to cancel the Book Quiz and our visit from Tom Palmer to meet the primaries, added to the challenge of reorganising the visit to the Wyvern as a virtual event was just a hurdle to be overcome.
What remained was even more fabulous. The lovely Ash Dickinson once again inspired Year 7 students to write poetry, leading to the most amazing feedback afterwards.
Julian Sayarer, travel writer, adventurer, cyclist and political journalist inspired groups across the school to go further, explore deeper and think more widely, leading to Mr Kench to ask where he could start. (No, Mr Kench, we can’t let you cycle around the world. We need you here). Competition winners were sprinkled though the week and Mrs Tonkin and Mrs Day have got to the end tired, but satisfied and maybe ready to cycle around the world, or at least Swindon, in a few weeks’ time when they have recovered.
YEAR 5 CROFT AT RIDGEWAY! This week, we welcomed Year 5 Croft to a ‘Taste of Ridgeway’ morning where the worked in groups to build and launch their very own rocket.
Ridgeway Staff and our Year 10 Community Champions were very impressed with all of the Croft students! We can’t wait to welcome them again next term.
CRAZY GOLF… Silver Block Year 9s went to play Crazy Golf this week, gaining new skills whilst learning teamwork in an unfamiliar yet fun environment. The Year 8s explored Royal Wootton Bassett using a treasure trail ending in a visit to a café. These short trips are carefully chosen to build resilience and social/life skills in our ASC students. Another group had fun with a “chopstick challenge” in Silver Block, attempting to pick things up with the unfamiliar (to some) eating utensils.
CHRISTMAS FAYRE… Come along to our spectacular Winter Wonderland Christmas Fayre on Saturday 4thDecember 2-7pm. We hope you can join us for a little festive cheer and find that special gift for someone special this Christmas, whilst at the same time supporting the Ridgeway School. We look forward to seeing your there. Please see flyer below.
