On the 11th of November, on the 101st anniversary of the end of the First World War, Ridgeway staff and students paused for a two minute reflection to remember those who gave their lives in past conflicts. Some of Ridgeway’s cadets (Dennis Hammond, Kaitlyn Roberts, Sonny Trevena-Ballard, Scarlett Trevena-Ballard & Olivia Moore) assembled in their uniforms to show their respect.
In their house activities, students learnt about the armistice that ended the fighting in 1918 and designed some Remembrance poppies to mark the day.
Ridgeway Does Children in Need
On Friday 15th November, Ridgeway students came to school in their own clothes, with a donation of £1 towards Children in Need. The charity works to ensure that every child in the UK has a safe, happy, and secure childhood. They use the donations to fund their work and provide grants to organisations for projects that help disadvantaged children and young people all over the country. The 2019 appeal has so far raised a staggering £47,886,382.
The House Captains and Year 11 House prefects also held a ‘Pudsey Fayre’, where they organised and created stalls to raise money. Perhaps one of the most popular events on offer was ‘Splat the teacher’, where for just £1 students had 3 attempts at soaking their teachers! A huge thank you to Mr Pauling, Mr Povoas, Miss Hodgkin, Miss Winters, Mrs Meredith, Miss Stevens and Mr Pittaway for braving the sponge!
Another popular event was hosted by Ryan Lee and Brianna Kerrigan. Students paid to cover Ryan in whatever food took their fancy, including all of Ryan’s least favourite things (bananas & mushrooms featuring heavily!)
There was a fantastic buzz around all the school all day, and the House Captains and House prefects were superb, organising every aspect of their stalls. An amazing £1670 was raised. Thank you.
