On Friday 22nd November, eighty Year 11 and 13 students attended the WorldSkills Live trip at the NEC in Birmingham. This was an opportunity for our students to have encounters with employers, higher education institutes and apprenticeship providers. Students had the opportunity to engage in a number of activities and discussions about their career interests and next step opportunities.
It was great to see employers from Landrover, the RAF and Army to Boots and Nestle there, encouraging students to get on board with their companies and everything they can offer.
Year 7 Rugby Tournament
Year 7 travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club on Tuesday 26th November to compete in the Swindon Schools 12 aside tournament against other local schools. Placed in a tough pool with Abbey Park, Royal Wootton Bassett Academy, Nova Herod and St Joseph's, the boys played brilliantly.
The first two games were against two strong RWBA and Abbey Park teams where the boys displayed brilliant tackling and running with the ball to create try scoring opportunities, but unfortunately came up short. Ridgeway were rewarded with their impressive displays earlier in the tournament by winning their game against Nova Herod 15-10.
Their tackling improved massively and strong running lines proved too much for the opposition, scoring three fantastic tries! Ridgeway’s next game was against St Joseph’s’ in their final pool game where they were unlucky not to win. Ridgeway were leading the game after scoring another great try and played excellently throughout, only denied by a St Joseph's score in the last play of the game!
Overall, Ridgeway finished third in their pool and played in a play-off against Commonweal. Again, the effort from the boys was outstanding, who represented the school well throughout the entire tournament. Unfortunately, they lost the game, but it was very competitive and close.
Results: Won 1, Lost 3, Drew 1

Sam Ellis, Corey Reeves, Max Marner, Charlie Clements, Frank Cotter, Lewis McLee, Elijah Milsom, Jude Bowles, Oliver Garner, Oliver Clarke, Riyaaz Hussain, Stan Harris, Harry Liston, and Huzafiah Riaz.
The Year 7 Rugby team have developed so much since September, where some lads had never played before. Their tackling and rucking has come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks and all players involved should be proud of themselves. Well done to all players who have attended extra-curricular rugby club and represented the school this season. You have developed so much in a short space of time and we look forward to next season already.
All players are encouraged to join a local rugby club such as Wootton Bassett RFC or Swindon Supermarine RFC to continue to develop and enjoy the sport.
Also a massive thank you to Mr Shephard for helping out with training every week and thank you to Mr Clarke for transporting us to the tournament and back.
Year 8 Rugby Tournament
Nineteen players of the Year 8 rugby squad represented Ridgeway in the Year 8 Swindon Schools Tournament on Wednesday 27th November. They were in Pool B with Abbey Park, Nova Herod and Commonweal where they managed to win two out of three games.
Conditions were not ideal as it was wet and cold, but this did not stop some great rugby played from the Ridgeway boys! There was some superb tackling and handling skills displayed from all the boys where they managed to score five brilliant tries. Ridgeway were unfortunate not to progress into the third and fourth place play-off, narrowly missing out on point difference!
Results: Won 2, Lost 2

Presentation from NCS
This Friday Year 11 had an assembly from NCS. A fantastic company which offers a youth programme for young people between the age of 15 - 17. It is a great summer experience for young people following the exam season. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and develop skills for life.
Year 11 students will be bringing home a letter but more information can be found here; https://wearencs.com/what-is-ncs
This week was house assembly week! Students took part in a ‘Countries of the world quiz’ to see which house had the best geographical knowledge. Avebury took pole position, naming 50 countries correctly. Silbury followed with 39, Barbury with 37 (although there was some controversy about this outcome as Miss Gulliford’s poor spelling and ability to work a laptop may have hindered them slightly!). Kennet brought up the rear, with a very noble 18 countries. It was lovely to get our houses together, and celebrate the achievements of the term, such as the Great Ridgeway Bake Off and Children in Need.
Students were reminded, that House reward trips are on the horizon, with a slight date change for our Christmas trip, being moved to January.
Keep pushing for those house points and remember, it’s not just another day, but another day to excel!!
The 2019 Remembrance concert was another wonderful, moving and emotional display of talent from Students of the Ridgeway School. A wonderful £1028 was raised and will be shared between The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Help the Heroes.
