On Tuesday 26th January 2021, Year 9 had the opportunity to spend the day off timetable for Year 9 Options Day 2021.
The objective of this day was to help Year 9 students make informed choices in this key part of their school lives. The day started with an assembly led by Miss Tranter (School Careers Advisor) and Mr Wakefield (Head of Year 9). Students then watched pre-recorded videos from the NHS, Army, MOD and the RAF, as well as local companies such as Intel and Nationwide. A live Careers activity on exploring the strengths and interests of the students followed this. The day finished by giving the opportunity to students to opt into two GCSE taster sessions that they would not have studied in KS3, such as Business Studies, Economics, Hospitality and Catering, 3D Design, Media, Graphics, Engineering and Textiles. Looking at student feedback, we feel that the objective of the day was completed and students were given the information needed to make informed choices during the options process.
A few words from our students:
"I got to see how certain jobs actually work, and what they are like."
"I loved the taster session as Miss Moody helped us go through a starter question where we were stuck on an island. We had to make decisions on what to choose to take and it was nice because we got to make some important decisions that we could maybe use in real life."
"I found jobs that suited my personality type and interests."
